It's Gonna be MAY

This is certainly old news, but the Josh fight of April actually occurred. Hundreds of people gathered in the middle of a random field in Nebraska to watch a bunch of people named "Josh Swain" fight for the right to be the only person named "Josh Swain." Spoiler alert: a five year old won. There have been more name fights scheduled since then (ie: the Nathan fight), but there is something magical about the first one.

Moving on to other things, Elon Musk, now dubbed "the Dogefather," appeared on SNL on Mother's Day of this year (May 9th) and of course his presence and hype influenced the meme based cryptocurrency Doge. In other news, Ramadan ends on May 12th, so for those of you who are fasting, the end is near! Well, actually the end has passed based on the posting date of this blog article. That's ok, though! Following that, taxes are due May 17th; please do not forget to file. Tax penalties are never fun and getting reviewed by the IRS is the last thing we would want for anyone, especially while we are still in a pandemic.

Speaking of pandemic, it is estimated that 34.4% of Americans are now fully vaccinated so hopefully things will start to calm down across the US. A nice change that has started is that mask mandates are starting to lift and will no longer be required in some places.

If you are local to Memphis or not afraid to travel, The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is still scheduled to happen May 12th-15th. If you are traveling from or through Arkansas, be careful as the I-40 bridge is closed due to a crack in the foundation. You can still get to Memphis using the old bridge, but know that the traffic is so bad that local hospitals are considering the use of helicopters to get patients across the state line help in a timely manner. If you just like excuses to celebrate something, National Chocolate Chip Day is May 15th, National Brother's Day is May 24th, and National Burger Day is May 28th.
